Not what you wanted
It was a weekend of workout. Yesterday I ran 4 miles and felt like ass. The early arrival of heat and humidity has been murderous for me. I need to go north!
Because of yesterday’s disappointment, I didn’t have a lot of hope for my “brick” today. “Brick” is a triathlon term for biking follwed immediately by running [Bike + Run + "ick"]. The NYC triathon is only 7 weeks away, so E and I decided that we were in need of a brick, I did 19+ miles on the bicycle followed by a 2.5 mile run. E did 10 mile ride/2,5 mile run because she did a lot of biking yesterday.
It was a MOB scene in the park. First I had to run the gauntlet of everyone who was doing tour de Brooklyn. They left only the tiniest path for other people using the park. That’s always the problem with the cycling folks–they don’t believe in any kind of consideration of anyone else in the park, including any runners or cyclists. It worked out well for me because we needed to keep a slow, manageable pace. Then there was a 5K race in the park and the runners clogged the road also. Again, it worked extremely well to help in pacing. We also had the pleasure of riding up the hill next to the front runner woman, who was doing just under a 5:30/mile pace when we saw her. Here is a photo of her at last year’s NYC Marathon, coming in 16th woman’s place. She looks like such a pro; it was incredible to watch. She is ALL muscle everywhere.
In any case, the run was really not bad and I was pleased with the times, considering all the “traffic” we had–just under 1:29 for 19+ miles on the bike and 30 minutes for the 2,5 run. Considering that I have a 3:44 goal for the triathlon (1500 meter swim, 40K bike ride, 10K run) two hours seems like a respectable time for the brick.
Tomorrow I will finsih the speeddating report. I don’t want to try to do it from memory and my notes are at work.

Excellent! Keep up the good work. Amazing what a difference a day makes! How close to the actual milage will you train up to? (For the marathon I “only” train up to 22 miles, even though the actual distance is 26.2)
I used to feel l looked like a pro when I ran until I saw a video of myself shuffeling along. lol
