You can always go…

The NYC Triathlon is four weeks from today. That means that I have about 3 weeks to train because the week of the race is a week of rest.  Rest is a beautiful thing.

Yesterday I did my first 20 mile ride of the season. It was a GREAT day for a ride, cool and breezy.  At the very beginning of the ride I had one of my ultra-special so-glad-to-be-me-ha-ha moments.  As usual, there was a bike race in the park that had just ended around 8:30.  There were clusters of spandex-clad racers blocking the road. I was busy muttering about what rude assholes they are.  About a minute later I end up riding next to one of the spandex men, who, incidentally had lovely strong calves. He glanced over and said, “So, how far are you riding today.”

In the instant before I answered I thought, “Fucking patronising asshole, I know I’m so slow but…STOP MOCKING ME!

Then I realized that his civilized question deserved a civilized answer and replied, “Oh, I’m doing 20 miles…so, how was your race?”

I despair of myself.

Today the running women and I ran a slow 6 miles. It was the best run I’ve had in a while because lately my aches and pains have been getting in my way.  To distract from the aches, we’ve been talking a lot about receiving oral sex, though it seems that only one of us has gotten any recently.  The topic has gotten so prevelent in our conversations that R suggested that we should make running shirts that say, “TEAM DOWNTOWN.”

Um…NO.

My sis finished in 1:58 - the official results aren’t posted yet. She said she did better in the biking and running than last time but that her swim time was worse - overall she thinks she bettered her last time by about ten minutes. I am awed and baffled by her and YOU for doing these things. My idea of strenuous exercise is mowing the lawn.

Rest is a lovely thing. Also, we are totally loving the influx of “brown people.” I miss living in a city filled with all kinds of people. These white trash rednecks with their gun racks and jacked up trucks just aren’t doing it for me.

I LOVE rest days! That’s the only reason I run! ;)

Congratulations on your long ride and good 6 mile run! Oral sex has never been on my mind while running, but it might be worth a thought if gets rid of the aches during the run!
