Bike, run, swim, eat, sleep

In the past 36 hours I rode 23 miles on my road bike, ran 7.3 miles over the Brooklyn Bridge and back with R, and did a 3 x 520 yd swim with one minute breaks between the sets.  I managed to meet the goals I set for the weekend.

Today was the first day since last September that I ran and swam on the same day. The public pools are open for the next nine weeks and a cool day like today is perfect for outdoor swimming. Not many people want to swim when it’s 72 degress and breezy. Fools!  There are 6 big 130 foot lap lanes and only 3 other people using them.

There was lots of racial profiling happening at the pool. I had three separate exchanges that went like this:

Me: Excuse me.

Park Employee: Hi…here for lap swim?

Me: Yes.

In the last exchange, as I was leaving, I was asked whether I had enjoyed my swim and told that I should return for extended adult lap swim times.

It’s true that pretty much all the white people were in the lap lanes, but it makes you self-conscious. The Red Hook, Brooklyn pool is only a couple of miles from home and less than a 15 minute bus ride, but it’s another world…mostly Latino and across from some VERY unappealing housing projects.

Meanwhile, tomorrow is an exercise-free day…I have another 34.5 hours until I need to work out again. Yes! My calves need a break…and I need some food.

Awesome! Great job on getting it all done!

I did some swimming over the weekend. Freestyle, 50 yards, about killed me, afterwards it took me several minutes to catch my breath (after that I just swam casually)…I am impressed with your efforts!
