I don’t recall

E and I met at 7:30 and did our 20 miles in the park.  About an hour into our ride, we came upon a cyclist lying in the road with a police car and garbage truck parked next to him. E and I got off the bicycles to walk them past. It wasn’t clear whether the guy had skidded out because of an animal running in front of him or whether he had had an acute attack of some sort. The bike was old and rickety and the rider was not wearing a helmet. He was totally motionless on the ground…all I could see was his very large beer belly sticking up.  The next loop around, he was being taken away in an ambulance and I still couldn’t see him move or talk at all.

It is always a terrible reminder of what can happen on a ride. We tried to be especially careful after we saw the man.

After the ride I watched tennis and enjoyed the fantastic match between Sharapova and Serena Williams. It’s still being broadcast on the West Coast, so I won’t say the result here.

Meanwhile, I am having doubts about swimming. I really need to nap; six hours of sleep and a 20 mile ride have left me with very little fuel in my tank.

Happy July 4. It’s a great year to be a white male lying felon. My boss said yesterday, “I’m no longer proud to be an American.” I try not to think about it.

Yes, I was thinking yesterday, while reading about Libby slipping out of his noose, how much I hate our president. Fucker. Gee, God Bless America!

Occasionally I am rather glad I can’t label myself as American (I am German), but then there are times Americans do great things. That’s when I want to contact the USCIS (former INS) and request my naturalization packet. Soon after though I catch the evening news and see some corrupt politician or business man and the feeling of patriotism fades.

America offers great privileges and rights that most Americans take for granted, which can turns into arrogance and ignorance. :(

Good job on going out there and riding! Hopefully ‘beer belly’ will recover just fine.
