Marathon training REALLY starts

This morning R and I did a 10 mile run.  The foul heat and humidity finally broke, and we took advantage of the relatively cooler dry temperatures to do most of our run over the Brooklyn Bridge and back.

There were hundreds of tourists clogging the bridge and we were both feeling slow, but it was a relatively decent run.  The bridge run always takes a while because we spend a total of probably 7-10 minutes waiting for traffic lights to change and for pedestrians and pets to move.

Next week I’m supposed to do 13 miles. With R away in the DR I’ll need to make a plan that will work.  For the rest of the month, we are setting a base of 13 miles and then in September, we bounce up and back for the long runs…15, 13, 16, 13, 18, 13.  Ten was more than enough for me today.  I’m pretty worried about increasing distance, but I’ve done it in the past 2 years and it has worked out fine.  I just need to believe that it can happen again.

Thanks again to everyone who sent the cat good wishes. The vet explained the situation to me and I need to feed her a lot of wet food, get her to drink a lot of water and take her back to the vet in 2-3 months.  She is thrilled to be eating more, so if she goes, at least she’ll die happy.

And if you want to see a picture of me suffering, look at the last entry.

Glad the cat’s problems are manageable. And good luck with training. You’re a better (or crazier, depending on how you want to look at it) woman than me!

You’ve done it twice. Woo hoo. Wish I had that going for me. You can do it!! One day at a time right? Thanks for your comment. I’m starting to look forward to tomorrow and 11 rather than dread it. I think I can do it …. although I will probably look similar to your picture in pain. :)

Your pictures looks like how I felt today running my 15. Actually, I think you look better than I did!

If that training plan worked for you two years in a row then it should work for you now! :) Keep up the good work!
