Finally, finally, Finally, Finally, finally

Yesterday my chiro checked out my left knee problem and diagnosed an IT (iliotibial) band issue. I’m pretty sure that she suspected the IT Band from the symptoms I described to her last week.  We’ve agreed on a course of treatment–I’m going to use foam rollers for the next ten days and then she’s going to use a chiropratic technique when I return from vacation. Considering that it felt sore when she put slight pressure on the outside of my left upper leg with her thumb, I suspect the treatments will be painful.

Meanwhile I did my 13 mile run this morning at a 13:20/mile pace. I did about half the run with E and half alone.  I was surprised because the run actually felt…sort of…well…easy?!  I certainly could have done another couple of miles at that pace.

I was thinking about the whys.  Here’s some thoughts: 1)The weather is cool and dry and breezy. In August, you can’t do better than 65 degrees and 15MPH wind.  2)I ate a LOT of food yesterday including steak, pasta and my favorite muffin in the world (raspberry plum).  In the past I had felt as though I didn’t have enough fuel the day before a long run and I wanted to fix that.

If I had a coach, s/he would be telling me that I ought to be running closer to my goal race pace (12:50/mile), but I am not ready for that. This was by far my best long run of 2007 and maybe my best run overall and I’m very pleased about it.  Finally!
