Nantucket-2
Even with IT Band problems, I managed to run twice on vacation–a short run and a 13 (or maybe 12.5) mile run to train for the marathon. I went to the chiro on Tuesday, after another short, advil-less and uncomfortable run. The chiro did a technique that involves rubbing the IT Band with metal implements. I was a terrible patient and couldn’t stand it for more than a few minutes. I now have bruising 7 inches long by 3 inches wide. I had hoped to take a picture of the area, but couldn’t find a camera to show off the red, purple, and pink loveliness on my leg. I’m not sure how to proceed from here, since this “treatment” seems about as sophisticated as throwing women in the lake to see if they drown. In my world, bruising=bad. I’ll have to discuss this with the chiro tomorrow at my next appt.
One of my favorite things on Nantucket was playing backgammon on the beach. I hadn’t played for 25 years, but H and her cousin re-taught me. They have very different playing styles–H is conservative and her cousin A is a risk-taker. I improved over the course of the few days. It doesn’t get much better than lying under a blanket listening to the waves crash and plotting your next backgammon move (or mistake).
The backgammon was rivaled closely by the lobster and fried clams that we picked up all ready to eat at the seafood store. We had our feast on the back porch, with the cool evening breeze blowing and very few bugs. The fried clams were lovely, the lobster was sweet. Oh, and A and his partner had brought some white wine with them. Have I mentioned that I had a wonderful time? Ahh.

I’m jealous you got to be near the ocean. Glad you got some much needed R&R.

Love backgammon. Next time you go - I’m stowing away in your suitcase.

Sounds like a great vacation! I am very envious.
Good for you to get some runs in.
Hopefully your chiro knows what he/she is doing…that sounds painful, did it at least seem to help in some way?
