The Biggest Winner
The days after a long run are interesting to me. I get up and step on the scale and note that I have gained a pound. Today I am up two pounds compared to Sunday morning.
Yes, folks it’s true. Any run longer than 13 miles puts the weight on. Maybe it’s fluid…maybe it’s from eating more food in prep for the long run. It could be muscle. Who knows.
I take comfort from the TV show The Biggest Loser. The women lose weight slowly. Often after a week of 1500 calorie days and several hours of exercise they have lost only a pound. I watch the show, cry with them and remind myself there is no f-ing justice. I also remind myself that I am a sap and a whiner.
I was thrilled to run last night with the running people. It was not an easy 4 miles, but considering that I’ll need to do 13 miles in summerlike conditions this weekend it’s good to be prepared for the discomfort. My approximate splits for the miles were 12:45/12:15/12:15/11:45. I am debating whether to do the 13 miles this weekend at more of a half-marathon race pace or more like my marathon pace. I guess I’ll see how I feel on Saturday morning.

You are just retaining water! No way you gained two pounds since Sunday. I am a total scale monkey though, so I understand.

Oh I hate the artificial poundage. And, that is totally artificial. One good day and it will be off.
I vote for slow and steady miles (but that would always be my vote )

I was told to expect a weight gain, because at the end I’ll be trying to make up for all the calories I spend on running. Of course I use that as an excuse to eat anything and everything, after all, who wants to dissapoint the masses?!
What time are you hoping to run the 1/2 marathon in?

Duh, I mean full marathon.
