Last 10

I’m back after a few days away. R and I did the last 10 miles of the NY marathon course this morning. It’s the third time we’ve both done this run and it was the best.  We both felt blase about the whole thing, which was exciting given that last year I stopped after about 7 miles and took a bus to meet them at the end. That was a bad day.  This was a slow day…we stopped for some traffic lights and some French tourists, who needed to be very far from where we were–she wanted to get to the west side of Manhattan and she was about to cross over into the Bronx. She was muttering my directions to herself in French, which I found very entertaining and smart…”so go all the way west (a l’ouest) which is straight down this street until you can’t go any further (tout droit).”

In any case, it’s always good to have some color in a run. We had a couple of women cheer us and some fast runners breeze past us. When we got to Central Park, we picked up the pace substantially to compensate for all the stopping-for-traffic. It was a lovely day, when 10 miles seems relatively short, and we finished easily and went for brunch.

In the past few hours, next Sunday’s forecast has gone from rainy to cloudy and I’ll take that. I’ll be obsessing about the weather all week long…just 7 days to go.
