Do I hear $1.98?

I think it’s funny that some news outlets have picked up this story that many NYU students would give up their right to vote for a million dollars.

So what?  I think most people would forfeit a right to vote for a million dollars, or college tuition for their kids, or a new house, new car.  How is that newsworthy?

I wonder how little it would take to get people to forfeit their votes.  A hundred dollars per month?  A thousand?  a new car?  a used car?

My favorite part of the story was that one respondent thought that: “anyone who’d sell his lifelong right to vote should be deported.”  Based on pronouns, this only applies to males.  But I wonder where this guy wants the vote-sellers to go?  Cuba, Russia, Guantanamo Bay?  All the commie-pinko capitalist dogs selling their votes need to be deported to the Middle East?

I love survey research–it’s so random.

I’d give up my right to vote for a Klondike bar.

I’d give up mine for a lifetime of free massages and yoga classes. And chocolate. And the guarantee that my children will grow up disease-free and live happy lives.

I wish I could vote (non citizen) so I could give it up for a lifetime supply of big Symphony Chocolate bars and a free fitness facility membership! ;)
