Funny, but it seems…

I watched six episodes of the Wire over the weekend. I enjoyed them, but they stay with me a little more than I would like.  Both Saturday and Sunday nights I had nightmares.  I haven’t seen the first 40-something episodes, but I could mostly follow the plot, though certain major points were lost on me.

The rest of this post is plagarized from an e-mail I sent Harriet yesterday:

I was out to dinner with a friend C when her husband and 34 month old son, A, “stopped by” at dessert time.  C had ordered a cheesecake brownie dessert and was sharing with everyone.  All of a sudden there was a yelp and A was pointing at her mouth. C had just swallowed the last bite of cake.

A(pointing at her mouth): I WANT THAT!
C: Have some ice cream
A (pointing at her mouth): i want THAT!
C: Here look, this is good ice cream
A (pointing at her mouth and starting to cry): BUT I WANT THAT!

We finally convinced him to eat some of my ice cream.  I forget that “all gone” is a tough concept where dessert is concerned. The worst part was that although we were trying very hard, we could not stop laughing at his distress because it was so funny. Bad C and Cranky.

I thought it was funny in the email and now I’m finding it funny all over again. Poor A. I am certain, though, that I had a conversation or two with AJ exactly like that when he was 2 or so. Now he knows he needs to keep an eye on his dessert.
