My people
I ran last night despite the cold and the 20 MPH winds. We did the first half of our 3.4 mile run in a 12:25 pace and the second half in an 11:30 pace. There are four of us who go run who are like a family, but lately we have been together relatively infrequently. Most recently E’s 80-something year old mother was diagnosed to be terminally ill, so she’s been away much of the time. She has been missed.
E, R and I did the Beginner class together in 2004. They were much much faster than I was at that time and they are still faster than I am. K is also faster than I am; the three of us met K when we were all doing the marathon group 18 months ago. We all ran the marathon in 2006 and are hoping to do it again this year. I hope we can all do it, but I’m feeling doubtful, as I always do.
I love my running people. Even whipping winds and frigid temps don’t change that. Actually, it emphasizes it because I am so grateful that there are willing to come out so we can freeze together as a TEAM.

Personally, I think it is easier to run in the cold then it is in the heat. Hurray for your and your running buddies to brave the weather!

You are a lucky girl to have people. I’m working on some of my own!

That’s how I feel about my art class people. They’re MY people. Nice to belong somewhere, huh? I mean, in person.
