My day

When I heard about this from the always busy Nancy I knew that I couldn’t resist. So I went out this morning and ran flat out for a mile and did it in 10:12. I was disappointed because I had been hoping for 10:00 flat. I tell myself that I have been averaging 12:20-12:40/mile in 3 mile runs. I remind myself that my fastest 9:30 mile was after months of speed training a few years ago. I note that I have done no speed training whatsoever in the past 3 months and very little in the past 6 months, but…still. 10:12 sorta sucks. I may have to go out later this week to try to do better.

I am hoping to go to the beach today, but it may not happen. My happy fallback plan involves going to the outdoor pool for a swim, since today is the last day. Then I would watch the US Open and read a mystery. It’s all good. Except for my running–that’s “notasgoodasitcouldbe.”

Sounds like a good plan – swimming and reading. As for the 10:12 run, I think you’re being too hard on yourself.

You got up and ran. That’s an accomplishment in and of itself.

Well–it was 65 degrees when I ran–cool enough to make it not seem like a big sacrifice.

Woo-hoo! Sounds good too me. Maybe I should try it. Except I haven’t run in months.

  5. No matter how fast we go, 9 times out of 10 we think we can do better. I agree, I think you are being to hard on yourself.

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve fallen short of goals many many times. Especially with my current mile goal. But really, 12 seconds isn’t that far off. If you are going to give it another go, just let me know and I’ll look for that report. And thanks for participating!

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. I KNOW that I can do better–10:12 is SOO SLOOW. Maybe at the end of the week.
