That’s the way it was…

The baby bear and I have had a good couple of weeks.  She’s talking more and tantruming less and that works well for us both.  A week and I half ago we had professional photos taken with some friends, and that went well for us–J was a champ!

This shot is very J–I love the dimples and tongue.

Earlier this week, I informed my boss that I will be looking for a new job in 2012.  I do this with a lot of trepidation, but I need to be making more money. Currently I’m earning about 6% more than I did in 2004 and I need to try to change that.  My boss was understanding and I’ve sent out a few resumes (which apparently I should call a CV, but I think it’s so pretentious that even youthful dumbasses applying for internships have CVs.  Really?  When did that happen?)

I also recently had an eye-opening trip to my [old] doctor.  This is someone I like a lot, who moved from Manhattan to White Plains, NY.  It took me about 2 hours to get to her via public transit.  We discussed Z0loft (not right now), weight (OUCH, needs fixing right now), glucose (almost ‘pre-diabetic,’ see weight), cholesterol (HIGH), vitamins, and exercise.  I’ve managed to lose a pound, but it’s slow going.  Dr L has three kids and she thought that I’m doing well with kid-stress, but recommends many “lifestyle changes.”  Ick.  I don’t like healthy food–give me white flour any day of the week.

My favorite new vocabulary from J are two phrases that must be from daycare, “SHUT UP,” which I shut down as soon as possible and C’MON, which she likes to yell at whoever is climbing the steps behind us as we leave the subway station.  As my friend S said, “I guess we know where she lives.”

I love both of these photographs! She is just a most gorgeous creature. This is a tough phase of parenting and it gets more manageable as they learn to speak and express themselves without so much frustration.

I can recommend the online version of Weight Watchers. You don’t have to give up eating things you like, it’s more portion control and an awareness of what you’re putting in your mouth that maybe you shouldn’t. But it doesn’t outright ban anything. But, yeah, with a maybe-diabetes diagnosis, you may have to cut back on white flour. A bit.

Thanks–the photo session was a great success. Next year I hope to do one with my mother.

I think about WW a lot, but 29 points is actually not enough food for me. I am using some of their tricks as I go. I have a ton of roasted veggies (broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts) in the fridge and that helps. I tried to roast one of those long white radishes and it didn’t cook at ALL. weird.

but really I want a Pop Tart. S#!t.

First of all: your pictures are lovely :) J is so beautiful and you all look so happy together in the last one.

Secondly: lifestyle changes, diet changes, cholesterol = ugh. I feel sorry for you just reading this. My doctor gave me a similar spiel about the cholesterol and needing to make ‘lifestyle changes’ not quite a year ago. I’m think I’m failing miserably to change, but I wish you much luck with it!

I have a friend who lost something like 80lbs using WW and she praises it a lot. I guess she says that the points thing works different for everyone (I take this to mean that some people can lose weight while eating more points). Also, if you’re not exactly thrilled with joining, I think they have online forums that are free and you could always browse those to get ideas (from what I’ve been told the online ‘tools’ cost money but the rest is free).

Funny thing, but I just attended a Diabetes training session today where we learned how to test for glucose levels and talk about various meds. It turns out that the two best ways to avoid getting type II Diabetes/making it worse are: 1. eating breakfast and 2. exercising 30min or more per day. I’ll bet J makes sure that the you get the second one of those daily :)

The photos are stunning – and, as Freshhell said, J. is a gorgeous creature.
I think the lessening of the tantrums may have something to do with the fact that she is becoming more able to communicate. Good for her and good for you.
Sorry about the health front. I have gained and lost the same 12 pounds twice in the past year so…yeah, pass me one of those Pop T@rts.

      Ahh, pop tarts.

There’s always a new wrinkle with the kid. Today was a no nap day. Fortunately, a friend spend a few hours with us this afternoon otherwise it would have been trying.
