It was a miserable run. We were only able to do 12 miles and probably four of those was walking. It’s hot and my knee hurts and my foot hurts and it’s hot and no fun. I’m so ready for some cool autumn wather!
I thought of Runnin Ragged and her fork and nancy and her [...]

We had a good run yesterday. We did 4 miles–slowest, faster, slow, fastest–in 13:20, 11:30, 12:20, 10:45. I was a little disappointed because I had wanted my fastest to be closer to 10, but the run felt good.
The success of Big Brother always amazes me. You have to be a brainless idiot to watch that [...]

Yesterday was a lovely day because M and I spent several hours talking and lounging and treading water at the beach. We’re hoping to be able to go once more next weekend…neither of us is ready for our beach days to be over.
My WW weigh in is tonight and, according to my home scale, there’s [...]

It’s hard to cut down on food. I get hungry. I want bread and ice cream and fruit and chocolate. I tried to eat a lot of fruit…yesterday I ate a peach and raspberries and blackberries. But my body cried out for more food, even after scallops and brown rice and green beans. Running 12 [...]

I did a 4 mile run in a 12:12/mile pace last night. While it was great to see R and K, the run was a bit humid. R and I were supposed to do 15 this weekend, but R hasn’t run more than 10 miles lately, so we’re going to do 13. There’s always next [...]

Even with IT Band problems, I managed to run twice on vacation–a short run and a 13 (or maybe 12.5) mile run to train for the marathon. I went to the chiro on Tuesday, after another short, advil-less and uncomfortable run. The chiro did a technique that involves rubbing the IT Band with metal implements. [...]

Yesterday my chiro checked out my left knee problem and diagnosed an IT (iliotibial) band issue. I’m pretty sure that she suspected the IT Band from the symptoms I described to her last week. We’ve agreed on a course of treatment–I’m going to use foam rollers for the next ten days and then she’s going [...]

I did my 4 mile run at a 12:35 pace and it felt fine. Once the weather cools down I can do a lot better, but my breathing suffers on these humid days despite taking Advair twice daily.
I was relieved because this is my first short run in over a week that hasn’t felt bad. [...]

About the “no one’s getting fat…” title. On Sunday, at the beach, I was staring into the crowd at the water’s edge and all of a sudden that line from Creeque Alley came to me. I love the Mamas and the Papas, but it’s been at least a year since I’ve heard that song. I [...]

This morning R and I did a 10 mile run. The foul heat and humidity finally broke, and we took advantage of the relatively cooler dry temperatures to do most of our run over the Brooklyn Bridge and back.
There were hundreds of tourists clogging the bridge and we were both feeling slow, but it was [...]
