This morning R and I did a 10 mile run. The foul heat and humidity finally broke, and we took advantage of the relatively cooler dry temperatures to do most of our run over the Brooklyn Bridge and back.
There were hundreds of tourists clogging the bridge and we were both feeling slow, but it was [...]

Don’t I look like I’m having fun? Yeah. No. I think you can tell that it was a very tough 13.1 miles last weekend. This photo is about 8.5 miles into the race.
The vet called me while I had my head in the sink at the hair salon. I paused to speak with her and [...]

No news about the cat yet. I’ll update when I hear something, probably this evening.
Last night I had my worst run in a while. It was supposed to be four miles: slowest, faster, slow, fastest. After the first two I felt like I was dying. I didn’t have my watch with me and R subsequently [...]

E arranged for the car service to pick us up and they came to get me at 5AM. I’m embarrased to say that after leaving at 4 for the triathlon only 2 weeks ago, 5 AM seemed luxuriously late. After triathlon, everything seems so manageable–all I needed was my clothes, sneakers, race number, my chip [...]

Just a quick post to say…it’s OVER! I did it!
I did my race in a 12:40 pace, which is great considering that the last time I ran more than 8 miles was in May. Miles 9-12.5 were brutal, and that leg was close to a 13.5 minute mile pace; I did a lot of walking [...]

I had a great run last night. We did 4 miles slow/fast/slow/fast and it felt good. I am psyched to be able to ditch the biking and to swim only for fun. Tri season is OVER for me and marathon training will begin on Sunday.
The marathon is just over three months away! We hope to [...]

As expected, I am horrified by the W3ight Watch3rs attitude towards exercise, which is: do as much as you want and you can “earn” up to four points a day. Four…points. That’s approximately 200 calories. Um, yeah, when I run an hour or bike for 90 minutes, 200 calories “extra” is NOT enough to keep me [...]

Yesterday was a crazy day. I love the early summer days, when there is plenty of daylight, when the local outdoor pool is open and free of charge and when I’m feeling strong.
The great and generous R agreed to watch my bike, so I was able to ride 20 miles and run 3.3 miles. I [...]

In the past 36 hours I rode 23 miles on my road bike, ran 7.3 miles over the Brooklyn Bridge and back with R, and did a 3 x 520 yd swim with one minute breaks between the sets. I managed to meet the goals I set for the weekend.
Today was the first day since [...]

The run last night was good, though quite humid. We did our 4 miles slowly and calmly. Happily, the park was much emptier than usual because there were scattered thunderstorms. I love to run when the weather is threatening–it’s dramatic and cooling and close to home if I need to rush away.
I’m hoping to get a [...]
