The Biggest Winner

October 3, 2007

The days after a long run are interesting to me.  I get up and step on the scale and note that I have gained a pound.  Today I am up two pounds compared to Sunday morning.
Yes, folks it’s true.  Any run longer than 13 miles puts the weight on.  Maybe it’s fluid…maybe it’s from eating [...]

Someone told me it’s all happening…

September 5, 2007

It’s unofficially Fall–the subways are packed, people have returned from vacation and the mornings are cool.
The good news in Crankyville is that my weight has not gone up (or down).  I didn’t stay for much of the meeting–the leader had some moron exercise that she wanted us to do and I say nononono to moronicity.  [...]

No joy

September 4, 2007

Yesterday was a lovely day because M and I spent several hours talking and lounging and treading water at the beach.  We’re hoping to be able to go once more next weekend…neither of us is ready for our beach days to be over.
My WW weigh in is tonight and, according to my home scale, there’s [...]

Two by two…hurrah! hurrah!

September 2, 2007

It’s hard to cut down on food.  I get hungry.  I want bread and ice cream and fruit and chocolate.  I tried to eat a lot of fruit…yesterday I ate a peach and raspberries and blackberries.  But my body cried out for more food, even after scallops and brown rice and green beans.  Running 12 [...]

grr

August 21, 2007

Is it possible to gain 2 lbs in two days…probably not without gorging.  In that case, I’m bloated and I need to bleed soon before I get more irate.
The WW thing is really irritating me. I need to either commit to it (after vacation) or put it aside until after marathon training is over. This [...]

She w000n’t know what she’s up against

August 17, 2007

I did my 4 mile run at a 12:35 pace and it felt fine.  Once the weather cools down I can do a lot better, but my breathing suffers on these humid days despite taking Advair twice daily.
I was relieved because this is my first short run in over a week that hasn’t felt bad.  [...]

No more stinky hippie

August 15, 2007

This morning I had to visit a couple of sites out in Queens.  It went pretty well.  I took a car service from one site to the other, and noticed that the driver had an interesting driving strategy. When he got cut off or anything similar he would applaud. Instead of screaming, cursing/hurling invective [good [...]

Food! I love food!

August 2, 2007

Last night, I had a revelation.  After a day in which I was exhausted, disgruntled and tearful I went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Spring Street Natural Restaurant.  I shared a mozzarella and tomato appetizer, ate a leek encrusted codfish filet with mashed potatos and snowpeas and ate half a peach crumble and half [...]

A tedious, gluttonous, TV-loving individual

July 16, 2007

I just had a WW weigh in and I am down over 4 lbs in the past three weeks. I promptly celebrated with some beef Negimaki and california rolls.
I need to consult my books, such as my Nancy Clark guide. I don’t think I should be following a WW plan for the next week; I want to [...]

Activity, whatever

July 10, 2007

As expected, I am horrified by the W3ight Watch3rs attitude towards exercise, which is: do as much as you want and you can “earn” up to four points a day.  Four…points.  That’s approximately 200 calories.  Um, yeah, when I run an hour or bike for 90 minutes, 200 calories “extra” is NOT enough to keep me [...]
